Equipment

  • Saucepan : A medium-sized pot used for boiling water and brewing the tea
  • Stirring Spoon : A long-handled spoon used for stirring the tea and other ingredients
  • Fine-Mesh Sieve or Cheesecloth : A straining tool used to remove tea leaves and any particles from the brewed tea.
  • Pitcher or Large Bowl : A container used for transferring and mixing the brewed tea with other ingredients.
  • Measuring spoons : Utensils with different sizes used to measure the precise amounts of ingredients like tea mix, condensed milk, and sugar.
  • Glassware : Tall glasses or serving glasses for pouring the Thai Iced Tea
  • Ice Cube Tray : Used to freeze water into ice cubes for chilling the Thai Iced Tea
  • Refrigerator : To cool down the Thai tea mixture before serving, you may need a refrigerator to speed up the cooling process
  • Optional Utensils : If you choose to add boba pearls or garnishes, you may also need a small pot for cooking the pearls and a slotted spoon for scooping them out. Additionally, if you decide to top your Thai Iced Tea with evaporated milk or regular milk, a small pouring jug or spoon may be helpful

Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp Cha Tra Mue Thai Tea Mix
  • 4 cups Water
  • 4 tbsp condensed milk (adjust according to your taste)
  • 4 tbsp granulated sugar (adjust according to your taste)
  • Ice cubes

Optional

  • Evaporated milk or regular milk for serving
  • Additional sugar or sweetener for adjusting sweetness

Instructions

  • In a saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a boil
  • Add the Cha Tra Mue Thai Tea Mix to the boiling water. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 3-5 minutes. Stir occasionally to ensure the tea is properly infused
  • After simmering, remove the saucepan from heat and let the tea steep for another 5 minutes. This allows the flavors to develop further
  • Place a fine-mesh sieve or a cheesecloth over a pitcher or a large bowl. Pour the brewed tea through the sieve to strain out the tea leaves and any particles
  • Add condensed milk to the strained tea. Start with 4 tablespoons and adjust the amount according to your preference for sweetness
  • Stir in the granulated sugar. Again, start with 4 tablespoons and adjust to suit your taste. If you prefer a sweeter tea, add more sugar and stir until it dissolves completely
  • Allow the Thai tea mixture to cool to room temperature. You can refrigerate it to speed up the cooling process
  • Once the Thai tea mixture has cooled, fill serving glasses with ice cubes
  • Pour the Thai tea over the ice cubes, leaving some room at the top of the glass for additional milk if desired
  • Optional: If you prefer a creamier version, top each glass with a splash of evaporated milk or regular milk
  • Stir the Thai iced tea gently to incorporate the milk into the tea and create a beautiful gradient effect
  • Taste the Thai iced tea and adjust the sweetness or creaminess by adding more condensed milk, sugar, or milk as desired
  • Serve the Cha Thai Yen chilled and enjoy!

Notes

  1. Cha Tra Mue Thai Tea Mix typically contains black tea leaves, giving the tea its rich flavor and distinctive color. However, different brands may have variations, so you can adjust the amount of tea mix used according to your preference for strength. Additionally, feel free to customize the recipe by adding boba pearls or garnishing with a sprig of mint for an extra touch.
  2. Tea Strength: The strength of the tea can be adjusted according to your preference. If you like a stronger flavor, you can increase the amount of Cha Tra Mue Thai Tea Mix or steep it for a longer time. Conversely, if you prefer a milder taste, reduce the tea mix or steeping time.
  3. Straining: To ensure a smooth and clear Thai tea, it's important to strain the brewed tea properly. You can use a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth to remove any tea leaves or particles from the mixture.
  4. Sweetness Level: The sweetness of Thai iced tea can vary based on personal preference. The recipe suggests using condensed milk and granulated sugar, but you can adjust the amount of both according to your taste. Start with the recommended measurements and add more if desired. You can also use alternative sweeteners like honey or agave syrup.
  5. Creaminess: Thai iced tea is often enjoyed with a touch of creaminess. The recipe suggests using condensed milk for its rich and creamy texture. However, if you prefer a lighter version, you can use regular milk or evaporated milk instead. Adjust the amount to your liking, or omit it entirely if you prefer a plain iced tea.
  6. Cooling Time: It's important to let the Thai tea mixture cool before pouring it over the ice cubes. This prevents the ice from melting too quickly and diluting the flavors. If you're in a hurry, you can refrigerate the mixture to speed up the cooling process.
